wow! i had two dreams a while back about crystals just like this, except the four edges of the square were each joined with other octagons, creating a plate of these, all linked as one. i think there were about 6x8 of them, something like that. in one of these dreams i was actually looking at this in a grow dish. i've thought about this shape a bit and yes, that's the energy i envsion too, with the four edges somehow canceled out by the equal energies above and below, so that where they've grown together there's a sort of stream of balanced energy...conductive or something? i don't know...
